Chalmers e-Commons is the result of an extensive preparatory work within Chalmers’ research organization. Already existing resources, activities and expertise in digital infrastructure for research have been integrated and further developed into Chalmers e-Commons, with a joint strategy and governance.

Examples of the resources and the expertise that are integrated in e-commons are available within the Chalmers Center for Computational Science and Engineering (C3SE), the Data Access Unit at the library and CLS, the direct research support at IT Services and the Data Science Research Engineers (DSRE), Also, Chalmers e-Commons has close contacts with the relevant parts of central operations support. The Chalmers e-Commons initiative also includes an investment in digital research engineers who can support Chalmers researchers in several areas of interest.

Chalmers e-Commons also forms the Chalmers node and coordinates Chalmers activities in national digital infrastructures, such as the Swedish National Data Service (SND) and the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC), and in international initiatives such as the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the European HPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU).
